I am currently reading this book. Reading about California Indians and names of the founders of a lot of the town’s I grew up in and around are devastatingly realistic. It brings another layer of flesh to the imaginings I had already built from oral stories I was so fortunate to have heard in part from my Grandmother.

Knowing what my ancestors and their neighbors suffered rushes blood to my head. It makes me hate the taste of illegal disenrollments even more. Reading the written documents and hearing it from the warm breath of my grandmother, I struggle with forgiveness and the unforgiveness.
